Look At All The Pretty Colors

I picked up a book on OpenGL, just for kicks, and it's incredibly cool. The basics (all I've learned so far) are unbelievably easy, and still a lot of fun to play around with. It's a real shame that Case doesn't have a decent (ok, any) undergraduate graphics course: not only would it be quite interesting, since it would move us out of the text-only realm, but it would have been really useful any number of times in my undergraduate career.

Funny, that books looks oddly familiar to me... actually, it was the textbook we used in EECS 466, Prof. Kersey's Computer Graphics in C++ course. Not a terrible course per se, but it could've been done alot better: things were just kind of handed to us and thrown together nilly-willy. Though I do agree with you that an undergrad computer graphics course would be fun, I think that some of the math involved in doing 3-D graphics may be a little daunting for the naive ungergrad. Another good OpenGL book that I highly recommend is the OpenGL Programming Guide by Woo, Neider, Davis, and Shreiner, otherwise known as the Big Red Book. Covers in depth the OpenGL Utility Library, with good examples throughout. Makes a nice reference compendium.

That explains why someone was unloading it cheap at the Bookswap, I guess. My gain! (Although they need an editor like nobody's business... Typos abound)
